An Australian couple, Owen and Christine Twist, are thrilled to be back in Fiji. They were among the over 2,000 passengers on the P&O Cruises Australia ship that docked in Lautoka on Monday. The Twists lived in Fiji during the early 1970s while serving the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Suva.
“It feels so good to be back in Fiji. We were hoping to meet some of our local friends that we have contacted through social media,” Mr. Twist remarked. He initially came to Fiji for a two-year stint but enjoyed the community so much that he ended up staying for nine years. “Fiji has always held a special place in our hearts,” he added.
The couple’s daughters, who work as nurses, also spent part of their childhood in Fiji, which made their return visit particularly meaningful. They expressed appreciation for the lasting relationships they established during their time in the country.
During their visit, the couple purchased Fijian souvenirs, including handicrafts from woodcarver Jone Sito. The cruise ship is set to continue its journey to Taveuni before heading back to Sydney.
