Northern Fiji Eyes New Police Posts Amid Drug Crisis

Several requests have been made for the establishment of police posts in communities throughout the Northern Division. This initiative comes as reports indicate that the illicit drug issue is affecting every village in the area.

SSP Kemueli Baledrokadroka, the Northern Divisional Police Commander, confirmed that locations have been leased for the construction of these police posts. However, Acting Police Commissioner Juki Fong Chew stated that the project relies on government approval and funding.

“It ultimately depends on the current Government’s budgetary capabilities to assist us,” he remarked. Chew noted that the demand for more police posts has been voiced not just in Vanua Levu but across various regions in Fiji as well.

“There are plans underway to establish police posts in several locations not just in Vanua Levu but throughout the whole of Fiji,” he added. He emphasized the need for adequate manpower and resources in these areas.

“This initiative is part of our restructuring and reform program,” he explained, indicating that the construction of the police posts will commence as soon as funding becomes available.
