Surge operations in the Northern Division have resulted in the arrest of multiple individuals suspected of unlawfully possessing illicit drugs. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu reported that these operations are bolstered by additional personnel from specialized units, including the Police Mobile Force, the Fiji Detector Dog Unit, and the Police Dog Unit.
ACP Driu emphasized that disrupting the drug supply chain is a key focus, with efforts including farm raids, mop-up exercises, and targeting known distributors. He noted that the success of these raids has been greatly aided by community support, highlighting the importance of information-sharing in the campaign against drug-related activities.
During the most recent surge operations, five men between the ages of 20 and 30 were arrested. In addition to the drug-related arrests, items believed to be stolen were also seized. Ongoing investigations are expected to shed more light on these incidents.
These operations signify a proactive approach to enhancing community safety and tackling the issue of drug abuse. With continued engagement from the community and law enforcement, there is hope for a reduction in drug-related crimes and a safer environment for all residents.
