Surge operations conducted in the Northern Division have resulted in multiple arrests for suspected illicit drug possession. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu reported that these efforts are bolstered by additional resources from specialized units, including the Police Mobile Force, Fiji Detector Dog Unit, and Police Dog Unit.
ACP Driu emphasized the importance of disrupting the drug supply chain, which is being addressed through a combination of farm raids, mop-up exercises, and targeting known distributors. He noted that increased community engagement and information sharing have played a key role in the success of these operations, highlighting a growing public commitment to combating drug-related issues.
In the latest surge, five men in their 20s to 30s were apprehended, and several suspected stolen items were also recovered. Investigations into these cases are ongoing.
This proactive approach by law enforcement not only targets criminal activity but also fosters community trust and collaboration, suggesting a promising path forward in the fight against drug abuse and its related crimes. By working together, the police and the community can create a safer environment for all.
