Assistant Minister for Women and Children, Sashi Kiran, delivered a heartfelt farewell speech to the Fijiana Women’s 7s team as they prepared to depart on Monday for the Paris Olympic Games in France.
She expressed immense pride in the team and underscored the importance of their representation of Fiji on such a prestigious global stage.
Kiran praised the team for their hard work and dedication, reminding them that the entire nation would be watching and supporting them every step of the way.
“I just want to say how honored I am to wish you all the best. I hope you are feeling fully ready for this amazing opportunity, knowing that the entire country will be cheering you on,” Kiran said.
“And whether you win or lose, please know that we will always hold you close to our hearts. The whole nation loves and supports you, and we will be keeping you in our prayers.”
She acknowledged the challenges they may face while being far from home and under immense pressure, but assured them of the unwavering support and love from their fellow Fijians.
“It’s important for Fiji to be represented at the Olympics, and we are so proud that you have made it this far.
“You are not just athletes; you are role models who inspire countless young girls in Fiji.
“We understand that being so far away from home can be tough, and the pressure may feel overwhelming at times, but remember, you have our unwavering support and gratitude.”
She encouraged them to continue inspiring future generations of rugby players and to make their country proud on the international stage.
“We will be with you every step of the way, cheering you on. Travel safely, and know that the hopes and dreams of our country are travelling with you.”
