Nineteen individuals were taken to Lautoka Hospital following a serious accident involving a bus and a twin cab vehicle in Vitogo, on the outskirts of Lautoka, yesterday afternoon. According to police reports, at approximately 2:45 PM, the twin cab vehicle exited Vitogo Road and collided with the bus, which was en route from Lautoka to Ba.
The bus was on its way to Ellington Wharf in Rakiraki to catch the 6 PM Goundar Shipping ferry to Natovi and Vanua Levu. Sherin Nisha, a passenger aboard the bus, shared her feelings of shock and sadness regarding the incident. She noted the mishap was likely due to a lapse in judgment by the twin cab driver, who she felt should have waited a moment longer for the bus to pass.
Witnesses described the intensity of the collision, stating that the impact caused the bus to overturn, landing on the driver’s side of the twin cab. Fortunately, both the driver of the twin cab and the 18 passengers on the bus were promptly taken to Lautoka Hospital for medical attention.
This unfortunate incident highlights the importance of cautious driving and the need for all drivers to remain vigilant, especially at intersections where visibility may be compromised. As the community reflects on this incident, it serves as a reminder to prioritize safety on the roads to prevent such occurrences in the future.
Hopefully, the injured will make a swift recovery, and this event will encourage stricter adherence to road safety measures among drivers.
