One of the bouncers from a nightclub involved in a violent altercation in Suva early yesterday morning has been taken into police custody. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACPO) Livai Driu confirmed that police are actively identifying and detaining others linked to the incident.
Driu emphasized the importance of public cooperation and urged individuals not to take matters into their own hands, encouraging calmness among those affected. “All those making threats on social media need to stay calm. Emotions are still high at the moment, and we are calling on parties involved to try and remain calm. Taking matters into your own hands won’t resolve anything; it will only make things worse,” he stated.
A dedicated team from the Totogo Police Station was dispatched to Namatakula Village to gather statements from witnesses and those involved in the brawl. Driu continues to appeal for cooperation from the community, asking individuals to provide evidence and information that could aid the investigation. He assured the public that police are monitoring social media activity to prevent any escalation of tensions.
As the New Year approaches, ACPO Driu reiterated the commitment of the police to ensure the safety of everyone, stating that they will be present and vigilant throughout the festivities.
This incident highlights the critical role of law enforcement in maintaining public safety and resolving conflicts peacefully. With the community’s support and a willingness to cooperate, it is hopeful that the situation can be resolved effectively and without further violence.
By fostering a sense of calm and cooperation, the community and law enforcement can work together towards a safer environment for all.
