Following a violent altercation in Suva during the early hours of yesterday, one nightclub bouncer has been detained by law enforcement. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACPO) Livai Driu confirmed that police are actively gathering information and pursuing additional individuals involved in the incident.
ACPO Driu emphasized the importance of maintaining public order, urging citizens not to intervene or take legal matters into their own hands. “All those making threats on social media need to stay calm. Emotions are still high at the moment, and we are calling on parties involved to try and remain calm. Taking matters into your own hands won’t resolve anything; it will only make things worse,” he stated.
A police team from Totogo Police Station has been dispatched to Namatakula Village to collect statements from witnesses and individuals connected to the brawl. Driu encouraged all parties to cooperate with law enforcement and exercise patience as investigations proceed.
The police are keeping a close watch on social media activity related to the incident and remain prepared to prevent further escalation of tensions. In light of the upcoming New Year celebrations, Driu assured the public that police presence will be enhanced to ensure community safety.
This situation serves as a reminder of the importance of remaining calm during moments of conflict and trusting law enforcement to handle incidents effectively. Constructive community dialogue and cooperation can lead to a safe resolution, fostering a sense of unity and security as the New Year approaches.
