The leader of the National Federation Party (NFP) and Minister for Finance, Biman Prasad, has announced his intention to run in the upcoming 2026 General Election. With two years left before the elections, he emphasized the importance of engaging women and youth to expand the party’s influence.
He stated, “I will,” affirming his commitment to the upcoming election. Prasad noted that the government is already nearly two years into its term, with the elections potentially occurring anytime between three years and six months from now, effectively leaving a window of about 18 months.
Prasad highlighted the NFP’s organizational strength, referencing its well-established 61-year-old constitution. He reiterated the party’s multiracial identity, distinguishing it from race-based parties, and underscored the supporters’ desire for a cohesive government that emphasizes unity and collaboration.
The recent Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at the Nadroga Sangam School saw all office bearers re-elected unopposed. Labasa businessman Parmod Chand continues as president, with Devendra Naidu, Kamala Lajendra, Ratu Esava Nabuta, Peter Saunivalu, Waisale Kanavu, and Vijay Rajnesh Prasad serving as vice presidents. Chandu Lodhia remains treasurer, a position he has held since 2016, while Kamal Iyer continues as general secretary and Biman Prasad serves as the assistant general secretary.
Prasad expressed satisfaction among party members regarding the government’s progress and emphasized the enduring vision established by the late Jayaram Reddy in 1999. He acknowledged the inevitable challenges and criticisms that governments face, stating, “Governments always make mistakes, leaders always make mistakes, there will always be allegations of corruption, mismanagement. This happens in every country and in every government.” He conveyed a message of optimism, encouraging citizens to move forward, with hopes for a brighter future in the next two decades.
