Professor Biman Prasad, the leader of the National Federation Party (NFP), has clarified the party’s leadership structure ahead of their Annual General Meeting (AGM) taking place in Sigatoka tomorrow.
In an interview, Professor Prasad noted that the NFP Constitution stipulates that the party leader is not appointed during the AGM. He emphasized that the roles of Parliamentary Leader and party organizational leadership are distinct. “The founding fathers of the Party made a deliberate choice that Members of Parliament are accountable to the NFP members,” he stated. He explained that they report to the AGM, which is presided over by the party’s President, who also chairs the Management Board and Working Committee. Prasad confirmed his attendance at the Convention as a member rather than an office bearer, since all such positions will be contested at the AGM, including President, Vice-President, General Secretary, Treasurer, and Registered Officer.
Additionally, the upcoming Convention will mark a significant event as Prime Minister Rabuka is set to deliver the keynote address, making it the first occasion for a sitting Prime Minister to address the NFP Convention. During the event, financial reports and activity reports from the party are expected to be presented.
Professor Prasad encouraged members to attend the meeting, where they can engage with the five NFP members in the Coalition Government and raise any issues or concerns they might have. The convention is scheduled to begin at 11 am at Nadroga Sangam School in Malaqereqere, Sigatoka.
