The leader of the National Federation Party (NFP) and Minister for Finance, Biman Prasad, has announced his intention to run in the 2026 General Election. With more than two years until the election, Prasad emphasized the importance of engaging women and youth as a key priority for the party.

“I will,” he affirmed. “We are already almost two years into our government tenure. The election could be held anytime after three years or within the next six months, meaning we effectively have about 18 months left.”

Prasad highlighted the party’s organizational strength and its well-established 61-year-old constitution. He reiterated the NFP’s commitment to being a multiracial party, distinguishing it from race-based alternatives. He noted that supporters seek a cohesive government focused on unity and inclusiveness.

The recent Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at the Nadroga Sangam School culminated in the re-election of all office bearers unopposed. Labasa businessman Parmod Chand continues as president, alongside vice presidents Devendra Naidu, Kamala Lajendra, Ratu Esava Nabuta, Peter Saunivalu, Waisale Kanavu, and Vijay Rajnesh Prasad. Chandu Lodhia remains treasurer, a position he has held since 2016, while Kamal Iyer stays on as general secretary, and Bimal Prasad serves as assistant general secretary.

“The members are pleased with our team and how the government is progressing,” Prasad said. He reminisced about the vision set forth by the late Jayaram Reddy in 1999, stating, “That vision is still alive and growing.”

He acknowledged that mistakes are inevitable in governance and that allegations of corruption and mismanagement are common across all countries. Prasad concluded with an optimistic message, urging the nation to move forward together, stating, “This country will be great in 20 years.”
