The leader of the National Federation Party (NFP) and Minister for Finance, Biman Prasad, has announced his intention to run in the 2026 General Election. With more than two years until the election, he emphasized the importance of engaging women and youth to expand the party’s outreach.

“I will,” Prasad confirmed, noting the government’s nearly two-year tenure. He indicated that elections could occur anytime after the three-year mark, suggesting a time frame of about 18 months until the next polls.

Prasad highlighted the party’s organization and the longevity of its 61-year-old constitution. He asserted that the NFP maintains its identity as a multiracial party, emphasizing its focus on unity and collaboration among diverse communities.

At a recent Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at the Nadroga Sangam School, the party re-elected all its office bearers unopposed. Labasa businessman Parmod Chand will continue as president, supported by vice presidents Devendra Naidu, Kamala Lajendra, Ratu Esava Nabuta, Peter Saunivalu, Waisale Kanavu, and Vijay Rajnesh Prasad. Chandu Lodhia remains treasurer, a position he has held since 2016, following his father’s legacy. Kamal Iyer is the general secretary, while Biman Prasad takes on the role of assistant general secretary.

Prasad expressed satisfaction with the current leadership and the government’s performance, recalling the vision set forth by the late Jayaram Reddy in 1999 and affirming that this vision remains vibrant and continues to grow. He acknowledged that mistakes and allegations of corruption can occur in any government and emphasized the need for progress, expressing his optimism for the country’s future over the next two decades.
