Biman Prasad, the leader of the National Federation Party (NFP) and Minister for Finance, has announced his intention to run in the 2026 General Election. With more than two years until the election, Prasad emphasized that engaging women and youth to expand the party’s base is a top priority.
“I will,” he confirmed, highlighting that nearly two years of governance have already passed and that elections could take place at any time after three years, including within the next 18 months.
Prasad noted the party’s commitment to maintaining its status as a multiracial political entity, ensuring it is not race-based. Supporters seek a government that promotes unity, freedom, and collaboration among different communities. He pointed out the diverse, multiracial attendance at recent events, reaffirming the party’s representation with five members in Parliament and support from the iTaukei community across the nation.
During the party’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at the Nadroga Sangam School in Malaqereqere, Nadroga, all office bearers were re-elected unopposed. Parmod Chand remains president, with Devendra Naidu, Kamala Lajendra, Ratu Esava Nabuta, Peter Saunivalu, Waisale Kanavu, and Vijay Rajnesh Prasad serving as vice presidents. Chandu Lodhia continues as treasurer, a position he has held since 2016, while Kamal Iyer remains the general secretary, and Biman Prasad serves as the assistant general secretary.
Prasad expressed satisfaction with the party members and the government’s progress, recalling the vision set forth by the late Jayaram Reddy. He believes this vision, established in 1999, remains vibrant and is evolving. Acknowledging that governments and leaders make mistakes and face allegations of corruption, Prasad urged his constituents to look ahead, asserting that the country has the potential for greatness in the next 20 years.
