The leader of the National Federation Party (NFP) and Minister for Finance, Biman Prasad, has announced his intention to participate in the 2026 General Election. With more than two years to go until the election, he emphasized that engaging women and youth is a key priority for the party.

“I will,” Prasad stated, affirming his commitment. He noted that the government has already been in office for nearly two years, highlighting the possibility of an election occurring anytime after three years or even within six months, effectively allowing for a time frame of about 18 months.

Prasad stressed the NFP’s organized structure and the longevity of its 61-year-old constitution. He reaffirmed the party’s multiracial identity, stating that it is not based on race, and that supporters desire a government that fosters unity and collaboration among all communities.

At the party’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held over the weekend at the Nadroga Sangam School in Malaqereqere, Nadroga, all office bearers were re-elected unopposed. Labasa businessman Parmod Chand continues as president, joined by vice presidents Devendra Naidu, Kamala Lajendra, Ratu Esava Nabuta, Peter Saunivalu, Waisale Kanavu, and Vijay Rajnesh Prasad. Chandu Lodhia remains treasurer, a position he has held since 2016, following his father’s legacy. Kamal Iyer retains the role of general secretary, while Bimal Prasad serves as assistant general secretary.

Prasad expressed satisfaction with the party’s leadership and the government’s performance. He reflected on the vision set out by the late Jayaram Reddy in 1999, asserting that it remains vibrant and is progressing. Acknowledging that governmental errors and allegations of corruption and mismanagement are common across nations, he encouraged members to remain positive. “My message was also very clear to all our people. Let’s move on. This country will be great in 20 years,” he concluded.
