The National Fire Authority (NFA) has embraced modernization through its partnership with Vodafone Fiji, integrating the M-PAiSA mobile payment platform into its operations. This strategic direction was articulated by NFA’s Chief Executive Officer, Puamau Sowane, who emphasized the initiative’s goal of enhancing efficiency, security, and convenience in financial transactions.
This move aligns with NFA’s five-year Strategic Plan and the broader governmental efforts towards digital transformation in various sectors. By adopting mobile payments, NFA aims to eliminate cash transactions, which will mitigate risks such as manual handling errors, audit discrepancies, and financial mismanagement.
The shift to mobile payments allows customers and businesses to conveniently pay for essential services, including emergency ambulance hire, fire safety training, and alarm monitoring fees, from their homes or offices. Sowane expressed that this digital transition will not only streamline operations but also promote timely revenue collection and reduce debt accumulation.
The adoption of M-PAiSA further builds on NFA’s engagement with the Ministry of Trade’s Start A Business Subsystem (SABS), which also leverages digital payments, reflecting a robust commitment to integrating innovative financial solutions.
In light of recent updates regarding the broader financial landscape in Fiji, the integration of mobile platforms like M-PAiSA signifies a transformative shift towards a cashless society. The entire ecosystem, including commercial banks, has been effectively interconnected, allowing seamless fund transfers.
