The arrival of a new baby is always a significant milestone in a family’s life, and it becomes even more remarkable when it occurs on New Year’s Day. At the Suva Colonial War Memorial Hospital, Mereseini Likucokocoko welcomed her baby boy just 44 minutes after midnight on Tuesday, arriving 11 days ahead of schedule. The newborn weighed 2.85 kilograms. Despite the challenges and discomfort of labor, Ms. Likucokocoko expressed her heartfelt appreciation for the care provided by the midwives and medical staff. “It was a surprise; we did not expect him until January 11, but I thank God for this healthy gift,” she noted, emphasizing how this special moment would forever be cherished by her family.

In another part of the country, Akeneta Ranadi, 29, gave birth to a baby girl at Nadi Hospital on the same day, a delightful surprise since her due date was January 8. “It’s a blessing to give birth on New Year’s Day,” she remarked, as her daughter weighed 3.78 kilograms. Ms. Ranadi, who manages her household while her partner works abroad, described the newborn as the first blessing of the year and expressed hope for more joys to come in the future.

Meanwhile, in Ligau Village on Kia Island, Senimili Duavokavoka experienced her own blessing. After being rushed to Labasa Hospital on New Year’s Eve, she gave birth to a healthy son, Suliasi Vunibola Turaganivalu, at 2 a.m. yesterday. Weighing 3.7 kilograms, Ms. Duavokavoka described her son as the perfect gift that completed their family. “When I heard his first cry, I felt relief and joy,” she shared, conveying her gratitude to Jesus for this blessing. Her husband, Seresio Turaganivlau, expressed pride in becoming a father.

These stories of new beginnings on New Year’s Day resonate with hope and joy, showcasing how the start of a new year can bring unexpected yet wonderful changes to families. Each birth symbolizes a fresh start, promising love, growth, and memories to cherish. As families embrace these new additions, there is much hope for a year filled with blessings and happiness.
