As the new year approaches, consumers in Fiji will face increased costs for essential fuels. The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) has confirmed that starting January 1, prices for kerosene and diesel will rise by $0.04. Additionally, there will be a noticeable increase in the price of gas cylinders. A 4.5kg gas cylinder will see a price hike of $0.18, moving from $15.35 to $15.53, while a 12kg cylinder will increase by $0.50, up from $40.92 to $41.42.
Furthermore, the price of Autogas will rise by three cents, adjusting from the current $2.22 to $2.25. Bulk gas prices will also experience a small increase, going from $3.16 to $3.20. It’s important to note that there will be no change in the price of motor spirit and premix products.
These price adjustments are driven by fluctuations in international market rates, including the Means of Platts Singapore (MOPS), international freight costs, and foreign exchange rates.
While these increases may put some financial strain on households, it is an opportunity for consumers to consider energy efficiency and alternative energy sources, potentially leading to savings in the long run. Many are hopeful that with responsible energy management, families can mitigate the impact of these price hikes and adapt to the changing economic environment.
Overall, staying informed about market trends and seeking out energy efficiency can help reduce the burden of these price increases.
