Just forty-four minutes after midnight at the Suva Colonial War Memorial Hospital, Mereseini Likucokocoko gave birth to a baby boy, who arrived 11 days earlier than expected, weighing 2.85 kilograms. Despite the challenges she faced during labor, Ms. Likucokocoko expressed her heartfelt gratitude towards the medical staff for their support. She described the surprise of her baby’s arrival as a healthy gift, stating, “This is a moment our family will cherish forever.”
In Nadi, Akeneta Ranadi welcomed a baby girl at Nadi Hospital, also ahead of her due date, which was set for January 8th. Her daughter weighed 3.78 kilograms, and Ms. Ranadi called the birth on New Year’s Day a significant blessing. Living alone with her children while her partner is abroad, she remains hopeful for more good fortune in the upcoming year, referring to her newborn as the first blessing of 2023.
In the northern region, Senimili Duavokavoka experienced her own New Year miracle. After being admitted to Labasa Hospital on New Year’s Eve, she gave birth to a son, Suliasi Vunibola Turaganivalu, at 2 AM on January 1st. Weighing 3.7 kilograms, Ms. Duavokavoka expressed overwhelming joy and relief, calling her son the perfect gift that completes their family. Her husband, Seresio Turaganivlau, shared in the pride of becoming a father once again.
