The arrival of a baby is always a celebrated event, but the joy is amplified when it occurs on New Year’s Day. Just 44 minutes after the clock struck midnight on Tuesday, Mereseini Likucokocoko welcomed her healthy baby boy at the Suva Colonial War Memorial Hospital, making his debut 11 days earlier than his expected due date. The newborn weighed 2.85 kilograms.

Despite the challenges and pain she experienced during labor, Ms. Likucokocoko expressed her heartfelt gratitude towards the midwives and medical team for their exceptional care. “It was a surprise; we did not expect him until January 11, but I thank God for this healthy gift,” she shared. The unexpected arrival has brought immense joy to her family, making it a treasured moment they will hold dear forever.

In Nadi, Akeneta Ranadi, 29, also welcomed a baby girl at Nadi Hospital, arriving a few days before her due date of January 8. “It’s a blessing to give birth on New Year’s Day,” Ms. Ranadi remarked. Her daughter weighed 3.78 kg. Living alone with her children while her partner works overseas, she noted, “I am so grateful for the new arrival; this is a sign of prosperity.”

In another part of Fiji, Senimili Duavokavoka from Ligau Village on Kia Island experienced her own miraculous moment. After being rushed to Labasa Hospital on New Year’s Eve, she gave birth to her son, Suliasi Vunibola Turaganivalu, at 2 a.m. yesterday, who weighed 3.7 kg. Describing her son as the perfect gift that completes her family, she expressed her emotions, saying, “When I heard his first cry, I felt relief and joy.” Her husband, Seresio Turaganivalau, shared in the pride of becoming a father.

These stories highlight the profound joy and hope that the New Year can bring through new beginnings. With each new life, families are filled with dreams and blessings that lay ahead, emphasizing the spirit of growth and prosperity that accompanies the start of a new year.
