Around 1,500 passengers aboard the Queen Elizabeth cruise liner welcomed the New Year in Suva City. The ship, which arrived early on New Year’s Day, brought mainly Australian tourists, many of whom expressed delight at their experiences.
One visitor shared their thoughts, saying, “My first impression of Suva City was the welcoming crew. I haven’t been here for 65 years. Having walked around the city, it has truly changed.” Prior to docking in Suva, the cruise had made a stop in Lautoka on New Year’s Eve, where passengers enjoyed a vibrant celebration featuring fireworks and traditional Fijian music.
Although the stay in Suva was brief, it was filled with activities. To ensure a smooth experience for the tourists, the Fiji Police Force set up information booths around the city, demonstrating their commitment to hospitality. Passengers also took the opportunity to experience local shopping, especially enjoying the offerings at Jack’s of Fiji, where they were warmly welcomed by the staff.
As the cruise liner Queen Elizabeth continues its journey, the fond memories created in Suva will linger for many tourists, showcasing the vibrant culture and warmth of Fiji.
This event highlights the positive impact of tourism, as international visitors bring life to local economies and create meaningful cultural exchanges. It’s encouraging to see how global connectivity promotes goodwill and shared experiences, especially during festive occasions.
