New Teacher Training Interviews Set to Transform Fiji’s Education Landscape

The Ministry of Education has announced the reinstatement of interviews for Year 13 students interested in pursuing careers in teaching. This initiative, developed in partnership with various educational institutions, including Teacher Training Institutions (TTIs), the Fiji Teacher’s Registration Authority (FTRA), the Higher Education Commission Fiji (HECF), and the Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service (TSLS), seeks to enhance the quality of teacher recruitment and training throughout Fiji.

Education Minister Aseri Radrodro highlighted the significance of a thorough selection process aimed at attracting candidates who demonstrate both passion and qualifications for the teaching profession. This effort aligns with the 2024-2033 Denarau Declaration, which focuses on strengthening collaborations among stakeholders and the Ministry of Education.

The declaration aims to ensure that graduates possess the essential knowledge, skills, and attitudes to thrive in classrooms across the nation. Eligible students are encouraged to apply for scholarships under the Merit-Based Higher Education (Level 7 Local Scheme) and the Minimum Cut-Off Mark Scheme. These scholarships will support various Bachelor of Education programs and specialized fields, such as Early Childhood Education, Counseling, and Industrial Arts.

The deadline for submitting online applications to TSLS is set for January 31, 2025. Successful applicants will receive notifications regarding their interview dates and venues through email and phone calls.

This renewed focus on interviews and comprehensive training ensures that future teachers in Fiji are well-equipped and ready to make a positive impact in their communities and schools.
