The Constitutional Offices Commission (COC) will soon announce the recruitment of a new Commissioner of Police. Pio Tikoduadua, the Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration, stated that the commission is actively working to appoint a new leader for the Fiji Police Force.
“The COC will be advertising the position shortly. We hope to see a strong pool of applicants, allowing us to have a permanent commissioner appointed promptly,” remarked Mr. Tikoduadua.
The need for this recruitment arose after Sitiveni Qiliho, who was suspended on January 27, resigned earlier this month while serving a two-year prison term.
As a result, the COC can now proceed with the search for a new candidate. Currently, the position is being temporarily filled by Acting Commissioner of Police, Juki Fong Chew.
The COC acts as an advisory panel, guiding the President of Fiji on the appointment of essential public roles, which includes the Commissioner of Police.
This commission is made up of six members, including the Prime Minister as the chair, the Leader of the Opposition, and the Attorney-General. Additionally, two members are appointed by the Prime Minister, while one is chosen by the Opposition Leader.
