New Regulations Set to Transform Fire Safety and Health Compliance in Fiji

The Cabinet has approved modifications to the Food Safety Regulation 2009 and the Health and Safety at Work (Administration) Regulations 1997, in addition to initiating the drafting of the National Fire Service (Fire Safety Compliance Certificate) Regulations 2024.

These revisions and new regulations aim to achieve several objectives:

– To simplify, clarify, and publicly detail the payment structure for the National Fire Authority (NFA), National Occupational Health and Safety Services (NOHSS), and the Ministry of Health and Medical Services regarding upfront payment collection.
– To allow the acceptance of digitally generated outputs for the NFA, NOHSS, and the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, including compliance reports, letters, and certificates that may feature e-signatures.
– To modify the existing renewal period to establish a cyclical approach.

These regulations align with the Starting a Business Subsystem (SABs), which serves as the first element of the BusinessNOW Fiji Project, designed to unify relevant e-services from over 16 government agencies onto a single digital platform.
