The Pacific Recycling Foundation and Waste Recyclers Fiji Ltd, in collaboration with Paradise Beverages Ltd (PBL) and Tourism Fiji, introduced the “Lase Vou” program during the Fiji Tourism Recycling Forum held in Nadi yesterday.
The “Lase Vou” initiative is aimed at promoting the reuse and recycling of empty PBL beer and Tribe bottles within Fiji’s vibrant tourism sector. Amitesh Deo, the founder of the Pacific Recycling Foundation, expressed excitement about the program’s potential to create a meaningful impact.
Deo noted that the program is focused on engaging hotels and resorts in a concerted effort to minimize waste, foster a circular economy, and ensure the effective collection and recycling of empty PBL bottles. He emphasized the goal of building a strong network within the tourism industry to share and implement best waste management practices, ultimately reducing the environmental footprint of these establishments.
Mike Spencer, the general manager of Paradise Beverages (Fiji) Ltd, reiterated the belief that sustainability is not merely an objective, but a responsibility. He mentioned that the “Lase Vou” program aligns seamlessly with their commitment to lowering their environmental impact and encouraging a circular economy.
Leigh Howard, chief operations officer of Tourism Fiji, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the crucial partnership with the foundation and other stakeholders in making progress toward sustainability.
The Tanoa International Hotel in Nadi has become the first establishment to adopt the “Lase Vou” program, showcasing its dedication to sustainability and setting an example for other hotels and resorts in Fiji.
