Vani Dianilawe Tobakarakarawa, a 20-year-old from Waciwaci, Lakeba, was crowned the new queen of the Vodafone Sugar Festival 2024 after a week filled with engaging activities and charitable initiatives. Currently studying law at the University of Fiji, Vani, who has maternal roots in Yalobi, Waya, expressed her gratitude following her win on Saturday night.

“Words cannot truly convey my gratitude,” she remarked, reflecting on her journey. “It hasn’t been easy, but I have received tremendous support and guidance from many wonderful people, as well as my fellow contestants, to reach this point.”

With sponsorship from Travel Consultant and Tours, Vani aims to use her title to encourage religious organizations to take an active role in combating drug abuse. “Churches have moved beyond their traditional roles to embrace and support affected youths by providing safe spaces and crucial social support,” she stated.

The chief guest at the event, Vodafone’s Chief Financial Officer Farheen Saheb, emphasized the festival’s commitment to charity. “Charity for those in need goes beyond being a mere theme for this festival; it serves as a reminder of our collective duty to extend help to the less fortunate and strive toward a more inclusive society,” Ms. Saheb said.
