After a week filled with engaging activities and a commitment to charitable initiatives, 20-year-old Vani Dianilawe Tobakarakarawa was crowned the new queen of the Vodafone Sugar Festival 2024.
Originating from Waciwaci in Lakeba, Lau, and with maternal ties to Yalobi, Waya in Yasawa, Vani, a law student at the University of Fiji, was still absorbing her win on Saturday night.
“Words are not enough to express how grateful I am,” she shared. “The journey has not been easy, but many wonderful people have supported and guided me and my fellow contestants along the way to reach this stage.”
Supported by Travel Consultant and Tours, Vani took the opportunity to use her title to advocate for religious organizations to combat the issue of illicit drug use.
“Churches have stepped outside their traditional roles to welcome and nurture affected youths, providing a safe space and essential social support,” she stated.
Vodafone’s Chief Financial Officer, Farheen Saheb, who was the chief guest, emphasized the festival’s emphasis on charity.
“Charity for the needy is not just a theme for this festival; it serves as a reminder of our collective responsibility to lend a hand to those less fortunate and strive for a more inclusive society,” Ms. Saheb remarked.
