After a week filled with engaging activities and a commitment to charitable initiatives, 20-year-old Vani Dianilawe Tobakarakarawa has been crowned the new queen of the Vodafone Sugar Festival 2024.

Originating from Waciwaci, Lakeba, in Lau, with maternal ties to Yalobi, Waya, in Yasawa, Vani, a law student at the University of Fiji, was still absorbing the significance of her victory on Saturday night.

“Words cannot fully express my gratitude,” she remarked. “The journey has been challenging, but many incredible individuals have supported and guided me and my fellow contestants to reach this stage.”

Vani, who was sponsored by Travel Consultant and Tours, utilized her platform to encourage religious organizations to engage in the battle against illicit drug use.

“Churches are stepping beyond their traditional roles to welcome and support affected youths, creating a safe environment and providing vital social support,” she stated.

Vodafone’s Chief Financial Officer, Farheen Saheb, who was the chief guest at the event, emphasized the festival’s commitment to charity.

“Charity for those in need is not merely a theme for this festival; it serves as a reminder of our collective duty to lend a hand to the less fortunate and to strive for a more inclusive society,” Ms. Saheb commented.
