New Presidential Nomination Sparks Hope for National Unity in Fiji

Following H.E. Ratu Wiliam Katonivere’s withdrawal from the presidential race, Prime Minister Rabuka has put forward the nomination of Honourable Speaker Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu Na Gone Turaga Bale na Tui Cakau for the position.

Rabuka mentioned that he consulted with the Parliamentary Caucus of The People’s Alliance, and Ratu Naiqama’s nomination has received formal endorsement from the Caucus. He confirmed that the Turaga na Tui Cakau has agreed to be nominated for the presidency.

“As Prime Minister, I will formally propose his name under section 84(2) of the Constitution during the special session of Parliament scheduled for Thursday, October 31, 2024,” Rabuka stated.

He urged all Fijians to collaborate with him and the Coalition Government in efforts to unite the nation and foster social cohesion, peace, unity, stability, and prosperity.
