Potential candidates for the Police Commissioner position are remaining discreet about their intentions regarding the upcoming application process. Attorney-General Graham Leung announced yesterday that former Police Commissioner Sitiveni Qiliho has officially resigned.
Sources have indicated that Qiliho sought legal advice from his attorneys, Devanesh Sharma and Gul Fatima of R Patel Lawyers, concerning his resignation. However, Leung was unable to specify when the Constitutional Offices Commission (COC) would reconvene to determine the timeline for advertising the open position for a new Police Commissioner.
Leung explained that the COC’s meeting date is pending as the Prime Minister is currently traveling abroad. Rusiate Tudravu, the former acting Police Commissioner and a potential candidate, expressed his reluctance to comment on his application intentions at this time. Current acting Police Commissioner Juki Fong Chew shared a similar perspective, stating that they would wait for the advertisement of the position before making any decisions.
