New Police Chief Search Kicks Off in Fiji

The Constitutional Offices Commission (COC) will soon announce the vacancy for the Commissioner of Police position. Pio Tikoduadua, the Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration, stated that the COC is actively progressing in its search for a new leader for the Fiji Police Force.

Tikoduadua expressed optimism regarding the upcoming advertisement, indicating that he hopes many candidates will apply when it is published, allowing for a timely appointment of a new commissioner.

The position became available following the resignation of Sitiveni Qiliho, who had been suspended since January 27 and is currently serving a two-year prison sentence. As a result, the COC can now move forward in selecting a new appointee. Until then, Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew will continue to oversee the force.

The COC functions as an advisory committee, providing recommendations to the President of Fiji on appointments for crucial public roles, including the Commissioner of Police. The commission is composed of six members: the Prime Minister serves as chair, joined by the Leader of the Opposition, the Attorney-General, and additional members chosen by both the Prime Minister and the Opposition Leader.
