New Nominee Emerges for Fiji’s Presidency Amidst Political Shifts

After H.E. Ratu Wiliam Katonivere withdrew his nomination for the Presidency, Prime Minister Rabuka has put forward Honourable Speaker Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu Na Gone Turaga Bale na Tui Cakau as the candidate.

Rabuka confirmed he consulted with the Parliamentary Caucus of The People’s Alliance, which has officially endorsed Ratu Naiqama’s nomination. The Turaga na Tui Cakau has agreed to be nominated for the presidency.

“As Prime Minister, I will submit his name in accordance with section 84(2) of the Constitution during the special Parliament session scheduled for Thursday, October 31, 2024,” Rabuka stated.

He urged all Fijians to support the Coalition Government’s efforts toward national unity, social cohesion, peace, stability, and prosperity.
