Northern New City Tourism Development Pte Limited has initiated an ambitious tourism development project in Korovatu, Labasa, with a significant investment. The project, located near the popular Korovatu picnic spot and boasting views of Mali Island and Malau, was recently toured by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Communications, Manoa Kamikamica.

Ma Xianlin, the managing director of the company and a tourism developer from China, first visited Fiji as a tourist in 2018 and purchased a sprawling 151-acre parcel of land in 2022. He expressed gratitude for the support received from Investment Fiji as the project moves forward.

According to Mr. Xianlin, approximately $5 million has been allocated for the project’s initial phases, which involve upgrading the site with plans to construct a hotel, resort, guest house, cantilever swimming pool, a mini cable car, and mountain top steps among other attractions aimed at enriching the tourism experience.

The project is set to be executed in stages, with a projected completion timeline of around five years. Mr. Kamikamica commended the progress made thus far, highlighting the exceptional views the location offers, which will enhance the appeal for tourists and locals alike. He emphasized that this initiative will allow the people of Vanua Levu to enjoy and engage in a heightened tourism experience reflective of overseas attractions.

In an encouraging note, he urged Mr. Xianlin to seek assistance from the government if necessary, showcasing a supportive partnership aimed at bolstering local tourism.

This development stands as a beacon of hope for the local economy, promising job creation and increased visitor interest in the region, while also fostering a vibrant tourism culture in Vanua Levu.

Overall, this project represents a significant step toward enhancing Fiji’s appeal as a premier tourist destination, highlighting the importance of foreign investment in national development.
