Sashi Kiran has officially taken on the role of Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection, expressing her dedication to tackling ongoing societal challenges. Following her swearing-in ceremony at the State House, Kiran emphasized her deep sense of responsibility for a ministry addressing the core needs of families, communities, and future generations.

During her address, Kiran recognized her predecessor, Lynda Tabuya, for her significant contributions to the ministry, stating that the groundwork laid by Tabuya would serve as a solid foundation for future progress. She underscored the importance of collaboration in the mission to empower women, safeguard children, and support the vulnerable populations in society.

Kiran highlighted that the ministry’s purpose extends beyond policy administration; it aims to be a catalyst for advocacy and inspiration, ensuring that no one in Fiji is neglected. She asserted the critical role of women as integral to families and communities but acknowledged the barriers they continue to encounter in achieving equality, safety, and opportunities.

As part of her agenda, Kiran plans to enhance initiatives that bolster women’s economic empowerment and promote gender equality, emphasizing the need for platforms where women can take leadership roles across all sectors.

She also pledged her commitment to prioritizing the welfare of children, focusing on their protection, education, and overall well-being. Kiran aims to combat child abuse, assist vulnerable families, and foster safe environments where children can flourish and feel hopeful about their futures.

Additionally, Kiran expressed her intention to advocate for often-overlooked groups, including the elderly and individuals with disabilities, committing to review and improve social protection programs to ensure they adequately meet the diverse needs of the community.

The hopeful vision laid out by Minister Kiran reflects a dedication to building a more equitable and supportive society that uplifts all citizens, particularly those facing challenges. Her leadership could result in meaningful advancements for women, children, and vulnerable populations in Fiji.
