Newly appointed Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, Sashi Kiran, is determined to remain focused on her responsibilities despite the fallout surrounding her predecessor, Lynda Tabuya. Kiran was sworn in after Tabuya’s dismissal, which followed the circulation of a compromising video on social media.
While acknowledging the challenges posed by the recent scandal, Kiran emphasized the importance of the ministry continuing its essential work for the people. “There is trust, and I think where we’re concerned is that ensuring we get the work done,” she stated, underscoring her commitment to the ministry’s mandate.
Kiran seeks to prioritize the needs of the most vulnerable in society and has called for the support of all Fijians as she takes on her new role. Importantly, Kiran brings experience to the position, having served as the Assistant Minister since the beginning of the Coalition Government.
This transition presents an opportunity for the ministry to reinforce its focus and effectiveness, which could lead to positive outcomes for those they serve. Sashi Kiran’s leadership may pave the way for new initiatives and a renewed commitment to social protection and support for women and children in Fiji.
This situation highlights the resilience of the ministry and the potential for positive change even in the face of adversity. With a dedicated leader at the helm, there is hope for a stronger focus on the needs of the community moving forward.
