Northern New City Tourism Development Pte Limited has launched an ambitious multi-million-dollar project aimed at enhancing tourism in Korovatu, Labasa. The initiative is situated near the picturesque Korovatu picnic area, offering stunning views of Mali Island and Malau. Recently, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Communications, Manoa Kamikamica, toured the site to witness the progress.

Ma Xianlin, the managing director of Northern New City Tourism Development, is a Chinese tourist developer who first visited Fiji in 2018. Captivated by the landscape, he purchased the 151-acre property in 2022 and has since expressed gratitude to Investment Fiji for their support and guidance throughout the development phases.

In the initial investment stage, around $5 million has already been allocated for site upgrades. Plans include constructing a hotel, resort, guest house, cantilever swimming pool, mini cable car, mountain top steps, and various other attractions designed to enrich visitors’ experiences. Mr. Xianlin stated that the project commenced last year and is structured to unfold in stages over the next five years.

Mr. Kamikamica praised the early accomplishments of the project, highlighting the breathtaking scenery that offers an elevated view of the region. He expressed his enthusiasm for the potential impact the development will have, noting that it would allow the local community to experience a variety of tourism activities akin to those found abroad. Furthermore, he encouraged Mr. Xianlin to seek assistance from the government as needed.

This project not only aims to boost tourism in Vanua Levu but also holds the promise of creating job opportunities and stimulating the local economy. With such developments, residents can look forward to a vibrant tourism culture that could significantly enhance their quality of life.

In summary, the Korovatu tourism project stands as a beacon of opportunity for the community, blending beautiful landscapes with innovative attractions, which could foster growth and elevate the region’s profile in the tourism industry.
