The Foundation for the Education of Needy Children (FENC) has officially inaugurated its new learning center at the Tovata Methodist Church in Fiji. Nirmala Nambiar, head of operations for FENC Fiji, announced that the center, which opened on Tuesday, is a project that had been in the planning stages prior to being delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Nambiar highlighted the partnership with the Tovata Methodist Church in launching this modern learning facility. She expressed the center’s commitment to fostering a drug-free environment in Fiji, emphasizing a collective effort among community leaders, the government, and civil society to achieve this goal.
The launch is particularly timed to assist children in the community as they prepare for external and final exams. Initially, the center will cater to students in Years 12 and 13 before expanding its services to younger students. The goal is to improve academic performance in local schools, marking the beginning of a series of learning centers that FENC plans to establish.
Despite the center’s current state, Nambiar announced that operations would begin immediately, with a significant refurbishment scheduled for November. She thanked the Methodist Church and its leaders for their ongoing support.
FENC Fiji aims to fulfill its mission of supporting the vulnerable and underserved by enhancing educational opportunities for children, ultimately helping them to succeed in their communities.
