New Leadership Shift: Dr. Taga Takes on Key Role Amid Controversy

Dr. Raijeli Taga has been appointed as the Acting Permanent Secretary to the Office of the Prime Minister. This announcement was made by Public Service Commission Chairperson Luke Rokovada. Currently serving as the outgoing Permanent Secretary for Lands and Mineral Resources, Dr. Taga is in the process of handing over responsibilities to the newly appointed Permanent Secretary for Lands, Paula Cirikiyasawa. During this transition, Parmesh Chand, the Permanent Secretary for the Civil Service, is temporarily acting as the Permanent Secretary for the Office of the Prime Minister.

Rokovada indicated that Dr. Taga is expected to officially start her new role within two weeks, following the resignation of Pita Wise, who left for personal reasons last week. The Prime Minister had previously stated that he received a complaint regarding Wise, which he passed along to the Ministry of Civil Service.

Prime Minister Rabuka explained that it is the responsibility of the complainant to take the matter to the Police, as he only referred the issue to the Ministry. In response to inquiries about why the Public Service Commission is not taking further action regarding Wise, Rokovada reiterated that it is up to the complainant to make that decision.
