Ratu Josefa Dimuri has pledged to fulfill his responsibilities as the newly elected senior vice president of the People’s Alliance. He was elected unopposed during the party’s General Assembly held in Lautoka last week, succeeding Rewa chief Ro Naulu Mataitini, who is currently living in the United States.
Ratu Josefa acknowledged the challenge of stepping into this significant role, particularly following such a respected predecessor. He expressed his commitment to take careful steps as he adapts to his new position, saying, “With God’s help, I will do justice to the job that I have been entrusted with by this assembly and lift the party at all times.”
Reflecting on his election, Ratu Josefa was surprised that no one else chose to run for the position. He mentioned that had he known of another candidate, he would have considered withdrawing, citing the talent present within the party that could have contributed significantly.
He emphasized the party’s ongoing efforts to improve and develop in all areas. Ratu Josefa expressed gratitude for the confidence shown in him by the two divisions that nominated him.
Additionally, he supported the proposal made by the head of the women’s wing to increase female representation within party leadership, stating the importance of having women in critical roles, including potentially the first female president or vice president of the party in the near future.
