The Acting Commissioner of Police, Juki Fong Chew, has expressed enthusiasm for the appointment of Rusiate Tudravu as the next Commissioner of Police (COMPOL). Mr. Chew commended Mr. Tudravu’s extensive experience, emphasizing his previous role as acting COMPOL and the insights he garnered from evaluating the police force externally.
Mr. Chew described Mr. Tudravu as bringing a fresh perspective to the position, urging officers to rally behind him as they did during his tenure. As Mr. Chew’s two-year term comes to a close, he reflected on the transitional phase of his leadership, acknowledging the challenges faced by both the police and the Coalition government during his time. He affirmed their commitment to serving the people of Fiji, stating, “We’ve done our best with the knowledge and support we had.”
At a recent ceremony celebrating over 300 officers, both retirees and active members, Mr. Chew encouraged the force to continue their support for Mr. Tudravu. Each officer was honored with a medal for their long service to the force and the nation. He urged them to remain focused on their service delivery, cautioning against distractions from minor issues, negativity, or rumors.
In comments made last Friday, Mr. Tudravu conveyed his respect for Mr. Chew’s leadership and indicated that he would adopt a low-key approach initially, planning to make a statement at an appropriate time. Mr. Tudravu’s tenure as police commissioner will commence next month, while Mr. Chew will return to his position as Deputy Police Commissioner, with Mr. Chew set to start his leave this week.
This leadership transition presents an opportunity for the Fiji police force to move forward with renewed energy and focus. The acknowledgment of long-serving officers celebrates their dedication and commitment, fostering a sense of unity and purpose within the organization as they welcome Mr. Tudravu into his new role. The sentiments shared by both Mr. Chew and Mr. Tudravu reflect a commitment to service and collaboration that bodes well for the future of the police force in Fiji.
