New Leadership at Fiji’s Prime Minister’s Office Following Surprise Resignation

Dr. Raijeli Taga has been appointed as the Acting Permanent Secretary to the Office of the Prime Minister. This announcement was made by Public Service Commission Chairperson Luke Rokovada.

Dr. Taga, who previously served as the Permanent Secretary for Lands and Mineral Resources, is currently overseeing the handover process to the newly appointed Permanent Secretary for Lands, Paula Cirikiyasawa. In the interim, Parmesh Chand, the Permanent Secretary for the Civil Service, is fulfilling the role of Acting PS for the Office of the Prime Minister.

Rokovada indicated that Dr. Taga is expected to officially begin her new acting position within two weeks. This development follows the recent resignation of Pita Wise, who stepped down for personal reasons.

The Prime Minister had previously noted that he received a complaint about Wise, which he passed on to the Ministry of Civil Service. He stated that it would be the responsibility of the complainant to take the matter to the Police, and his role was limited to informing the Ministry.

When asked why the Public Service Commission had not referred Wise to the Police, Rokovada reiterated that the decision rests with the complainant. He emphasized, “It is for the complainant and it is her personal decision.”
