The Kavanagasau Sanatan Dharm Kindergarten, a cutting-edge facility valued at $26,000, has been inaugurated as a center for early learning and play for children in Kavanagasau and nearby areas. The establishment of this kindergarten was made possible by a generous donation from the Tappoo Group of Companies and was officially opened earlier this month.
Situated approximately 18 kilometers from Sigatoka Town, the kindergarten adds to the educational offerings of the area, which includes primary education from Years One to Eight and secondary education from Years Nine to Thirteen. Jitendra Kumar, the head of the school, warmly welcomed attendees and expressed profound gratitude to the Tappoo Group for their support.
Mr. Kumar emphasized the importance of the playcenter in nurturing future generations, reiterating that education transcends traditional classroom settings and should foster creativity and exploration. He described the opening of this Early Childhood Education (ECE) playcenter as a pivotal development for enhancing the quality of education within the Nadroga Navosa education district.
The playcenter also serves as a tribute to Tappoo Kanji, a pioneering student of the school and a significant figure in the Tappoo family’s legacy. During the ceremony, Kanti Tappoo, chairperson of the Tappoo Group, reflected on his family’s long-standing connection to the school, which dates back to his father’s enrollment in 1933.
“This playcenter represents more than just a donation; it symbolizes our family’s bond with the community and highlights the essential role of early education,” he stated. The Tappoo Group’s support for the school goes beyond this initiative, having contributed $12,500 worth of IT equipment last year to enhance the school’s computer lab.
This year’s focus on improving the learning environment for the youngest students underscores the company’s ongoing commitment to the rural educational institution. Nadroga Navosa Education Officer Janice Nath praised the Tappoo Group for their vision of cultivating lifelong learners, noting that the playcenter will benefit not only Kavanagasau’s children but also exemplify the Ministry of Education’s dedication to promoting innovation and quality education.
Nath highlighted the critical nature of early childhood education, which lays the groundwork for future learning, and expressed optimism that the new facility will provide a supportive and friendly atmosphere for students. With the backing of the Tappoo Group, the school management committee, and the Ministry of Education, the playcenter is anticipated to play a transformative role in the educational journey of its young attendees.
The unveiling of a commemorative plaque marked the conclusion of the event, symbolizing the collaborative effort that contributed to this achievement and the community’s dedication to offering the best possible educational beginnings for children.
In another achievement, the Kavanagasau Sanatan Dharam Primary School reported a 100 percent pass rate in last year’s Fiji Eighth Year Examination, marking two consecutive years of this success. Mr. Kumar attributed this success to the teamwork of teachers and parents, with Lice Vuliasi, a diligent student from Kavanagasau, achieving the highest marks. He affirmed the school’s commitment to continuous improvement and emphasized the need for ongoing support from parents to maintain this level of achievement in the future.
