The new Kavanagasau Sanatan Dharm Kindergarten, valued at $26,000, has been officially opened and will serve as a center for early learning and play for children in Kavanagasau and its neighboring areas. The facility was created thanks to a generous donation from the Tappoo Group of Companies.

Situated approximately 18 kilometers from Sigatoka Town, the kindergarten enhances the school’s offerings, which include primary education from Years One to Eight and College programs from Years Nine to Thirteen. Head of school Jitendra Kumar warmly welcomed the attendees and expressed deep appreciation to the Tappoo Group.

Mr. Kumar underscored the significant role the play center would play in shaping the future of children, pointing out that education transcends traditional classroom settings and includes spaces designed for creativity and exploration. He stated, “The grand opening of this Early Childhood Education (ECE) playcentre represents a significant step forward in promoting quality education within the Nadroga Navosa education district.”

The facility honors the late Tappoo Kanji, a pioneering student of the school and an important figure in the legacy of the Tappoo family. During the inauguration, Tappoo Group chairperson Kanti Tappoo shared a heartfelt story of his family’s longstanding connection to the school, which dates back to his father’s enrollment in 1933.

“This playcentre is more than just a donation; it signifies our family’s bond with this community and highlights the significance of early education,” Mr. Tappoo stated. The Tappoo Group’s support for the school has a history, including the $12,500 donation of IT equipment last year to develop the school’s computer lab, demonstrating their commitment to enhancing educational opportunities.

Nadroga Navosa Education Officer Janice Nath praised the Tappoo Group for their shared vision of cultivating lifelong learners. She remarked, “The playcentre will benefit not only the children of Kavanagasau but also reflect the Ministry of Education’s dedication to promoting innovation and high-quality learning.” She emphasized that early childhood education lays the groundwork for future success and that this facility will provide a supportive and nurturing environment for young learners.

The Kavanagasau Kindergarten ECE playcenter is set to have a significant impact on the young students’ lives, facilitating their social, emotional, and physical development within a supportive atmosphere. With the backing of the Tappoo Group, the school management committee, and the Ministry of Education, the playcentre is expected to be a foundational aspect of educational growth in the community.

The event culminated in the unveiling of a commemorative plaque, representing the collaborative efforts involved in this project and the community’s commitment to ensuring a strong start in education for local children.

In another accomplishment, Kavanagasau Sanatan Dharam Primary School celebrated a consecutive achievement with a 100 percent pass rate in the Fiji Eighth Year Examination last year. Mr. Kumar noted that this success was also recorded in the 2022 examinations, praising the partnership of teachers and parents in supporting the students’ education.

Hardworking student Lice Vuliasi from the Kavanagasau settlement received the highest marks. He indicated that the school would continue to strive for high performance with strong support from parents. Mr. Kumar remarked that they have identified areas for improvement from 2023 to ensure they achieve top marks once again this year.
