A new state-of-the-art kindergarten, the Kavanagasau Sanatan Dharm Kindergarten, has opened its doors with a budget of $26,000, aimed at providing a center for early learning and play for children in Kavanagasau and nearby communities. The facility was inaugurated earlier this month, thanks to a generous donation from the Tappoo Group of Companies.

Located approximately 18 kilometers from Sigatoka Town, the kindergarten complements an educational framework that includes primary schooling from Years One to Eight, as well as College for Years Nine to Twelve. Head of School, Jitendra Kumar, expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the Tappoo Group during the opening ceremony, emphasizing the importance of the playcentre in nurturing future generations. He noted that education transcends traditional classroom settings, highlighting the need for spaces that encourage creativity and exploration.

“This state-of-the-art facility will serve as a hub for early learning and play for children from Kavanagasau and the surrounding areas,” Kumar remarked. The playcentre also honors Tappoo Kanji, a pioneer student of the school and a significant contributor to the legacy of the Tappoo family.

Kanti Tappoo, chairperson of Tappoo Group, shared an emotional narrative of his family’s long-standing connection to the school, which began with his father’s enrollment in 1933. He described the playcentre as a powerful symbol of the family’s commitment to the community and the significance they place on early education.

The Tappoo Group’s involvement with the school extends beyond this initiative. In the previous year, the company donated $12,500 worth of Information Technology equipment to enhance the school’s computer lab. This year’s focus on early childhood education reflects their ongoing support for rural educational development.

Janice Nath, Education Officer for Nadroga Navosa, commended the Tappoo Group for their vision in cultivating lifelong learners. She reiterated that the playcentre would not only benefit Kavanagasau’s children but would also align with the Ministry of Education’s goals for promoting innovation and quality in education. Nath remarked on the critical role of early childhood education in laying the foundation for future learning, stating that the new facility would create a supportive and student-friendly environment.

The kindergarten is expected to have a significant impact on the young children attending, fostering their social, emotional, and physical growth. With the backing of the Tappoo Group, the school management, and the Ministry of Education, the playcentre is set to become an essential part of the community’s educational landscape. The ceremony concluded with the unveiling of a commemorative plaque, celebrating the collaborative efforts towards this meaningful achievement.

Additionally, Kavanagasau Sanatan Dharam Primary School has celebrated a consecutive achievement, recording a 100 percent pass rate in last year’s Fiji Eighth Year Examination. Kumar noted that this success was mirrored by the same results in 2022, attributing it to the hard work of teachers and parental support. Lice Vuliasi, a diligent student from the Kavanagasau settlement, received the highest score and expressed the school’s commitment to continued excellence while seeking strong backing from parents. Kumar mentioned that the school has analyzed weaknesses from 2023 to ensure they achieve quality results in the coming year.
