The Kavanagasau Sanatan Dharm Kindergarten, a state-of-the-art facility valued at $26,000, was officially opened earlier this month to serve as a center for early learning and play for children from Kavanagasau and nearby communities. This facility was made possible through a generous donation from the Tappoo Group of Companies.

Located approximately 18 kilometers from Sigatoka Town, the kindergarten enhances the school roll which includes primary classes from Years One to Eight, as well as college classes from Years Nine to 13. Head of the school, Jitendra Kumar, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Tappoo Group during the opening ceremony, emphasizing the significant role the playcenter will have in nurturing future generations. He noted that education extends beyond traditional classrooms, reaching into environments that foster creativity and exploration.

“This state-of-the-art facility will serve as a hub for early learning and play for children from Kavanagasau and surrounding communities,” Mr. Kumar stated. The playcenter is dedicated to the late Tappoo Kanji, a pioneering student of the school and a key figure in the Tappoo family’s legacy.

At the ceremony, Kanti Tappoo, chairperson of the Tappoo Group, shared a heartfelt account of his family’s longstanding connection to the school, which dates back to his father’s enrollment in 1933. He described the playcenter as not just a donation, but a symbol of their family’s strong ties to the community and the importance of early education.

The Tappoo Group’s commitment to the school goes beyond this recent project; last year, they provided $12,500 worth of IT equipment to help develop the school’s computer lab. This year’s initiative focuses on creating a better learning environment for the youngest students, reinforcing their ongoing support for the rural school.

Janice Nath, Education Officer for Nadroga Navosa, echoed the sentiments of appreciation, praising the Tappoo Group for their shared vision in fostering lifelong learners. She emphasized that the playcenter will benefit not only the children of Kavanagasau but also align with the Ministry of Education’s commitment to innovation and quality education, stating that early childhood education serves as the foundation for future learning.

The Kavanagasau Kindergarten ECE playcenter is set to make a transformative impact on the lives of its young students, providing them with opportunities for social, emotional, and physical growth in a nurturing environment. Supported by the Tappoo Group, the school management committee, and the Ministry of Education, this playcenter will stand as a cornerstone of community education. The inauguration ceremony concluded with the unveiling of a commemorative plaque, symbolizing the collaborative effort that made this achievement possible and the community’s commitment to providing children with the best possible start.

In other news, Kavanagasau Sanatan Dharam Primary School celebrated a second consecutive achievement of 100 percent pass rate in last year’s Fiji Eighth Year Examination. Mr. Kumar highlighted that this success was also achieved in the 2022 examination, attributing the students’ accomplishments to the dedication of teachers and collaboration with parents. Lice Vuliasi from the Kavanagasau settlement earned the highest mark. Mr. Kumar stated that the school will continue to work hard and emphasized the need for strong parental support. The school has already identified weaknesses from the previous year and is preparing to ensure quality marks in the upcoming exams.
