The Kavanagasau Sanatan Dharm Kindergarten, a $26,000 state-of-the-art facility, has been officially opened, serving as a center for early learning and play for children in Kavanagasau and adjacent communities. This new kindergarten was funded by the Tappoo Group of Companies and is situated approximately 18 kilometers from Sigatoka Town, complementing the existing primary school that includes grades one to eight and a college for years nine through twelve.
Jitendra Kumar, the head of the school, welcomed attendees and expressed profound appreciation to the Tappoo Group during the opening ceremony. He emphasized the significant impact the play center will have in shaping the next generation, underlining that education goes beyond traditional classrooms and should foster creativity and exploration.
“This grand opening marks an important advancement in promoting quality education within the Nadroga Navosa education district,” Mr. Kumar stated. The facility also serves as a tribute to the late Tappoo Kanji, a foundational student of the school who played a critical role in the Tappoo family’s legacy.
Kanti Tappoo, chairperson of the Tappoo Group, shared the emotional connection his family has with the school, which dates back to his father’s enrollment in 1933. He stated, “This playcentre is not merely a donation; it symbolizes our family’s commitment to this community and underscores the significance of early education.” The Tappoo Group’s support for the school has extended beyond the kindergarten, with a prior donation of IT equipment valued at $12,500 to enhance the computer lab.
Education Officer Janice Nath praised the Tappoo Group for their shared goal of cultivating lifelong learners, adding that the play center not only benefits children in Kavanagasau but also aligns with the Ministry of Education’s mission to promote innovation and quality in education. She highlighted the importance of early childhood education as the foundation for future learning, noting that the new facility will provide a welcoming and supportive environment.
The Kavanagasau Kindergarten ECE playcentre is set to significantly impact the lives of young students, supporting their social, emotional, and physical development. With backing from the Tappoo Group, the school’s management, and the Ministry of Education, it is expected to become a key element of community education. The ceremony concluded with the unveiling of a commemorative plaque celebrating the collective effort behind this initiative and the community’s commitment to giving children the best possible start.
In another achievement, the Kavanagasau Sanatan Dharam Primary School celebrated a 100 percent pass rate in last year’s Fiji Eighth Year Examination, marking a consistent achievement for two consecutive years. Mr. Kumar noted that this success was due to the collaboration between dedicated teachers and parents. Lice Vuliasi, a diligent student from Kavanagasau settlement, achieved the highest marks. He emphasized the importance of parental support in maintaining their hard work for continued success, while Mr. Kumar reassured that they have addressed past weaknesses to aim for excellent results again this year.
