The newly inaugurated Kavanagasau Sanatan Dharm Kindergarten, valued at $26,000, will act as a center for early learning and play for children in Kavanagasau and neighboring areas. This state-of-the-art facility, opened earlier this month, was made possible through the generous contributions of the Tappoo Group of Companies.

Situated approximately 18 kilometers from Sigatoka Town, the kindergarten enhances the school roll that includes primary education from Years One to Eight, along with college classes from Years Nine to 13. Jitendra Kumar, the head of the school, expressed warm welcomes to attendees and offered sincere thanks to the Tappoo Group for their support. He underscored the essential role the playcenter will play in cultivating the next generation, asserting that learning transcends classroom boundaries and thrives in environments that promote creativity and discovery.

“This grand opening for the Early Childhood Education (ECE) playcenter marks a crucial advancement toward fostering quality education in the Nadroga Navosa district,” Mr. Kumar stated.

The playcenter also honors the late Tappoo Kanji, a pioneering student of the institution and a key figure in the Tappoo family legacy. During the opening ceremony, Kanti Tappoo, chairperson of the Tappoo Group, shared an emotional reflection on his family’s longstanding connection to the school, which began with his father’s enrollment in 1933.

“This playcenter is not merely a donation; it symbolizes our family’s dedication to this community and underscores the significance of early education,” Mr. Tappoo remarked. The Tappoo Group’s dedication to the school has been ongoing, with previous contributions including $12,500 worth of Information Technology (IT) equipment last year aimed at developing the school’s computer lab. This year’s initiative aims to enhance the learning environment for younger students, reinforcing their consistent support for the rural institution.

Janice Nath, Education Officer for Nadroga Navosa, echoed Mr. Tappoo’s sentiments, commending the Tappoo Group for their shared vision of cultivating lifelong learners. “This playcenter will not only benefit the children of Kavanagasau but will also exemplify the Ministry of Education’s commitment to encouraging innovation and high-quality education,” Ms. Nath stated. “Early childhood education is foundational for future learning, and this facility will offer a nurturing and student-friendly atmosphere.”

The Kavanagasau Kindergarten ECE playcenter is set to significantly impact the lives of its young attendees, providing opportunities for social, emotional, and physical growth in a supportive setting. With backing from the Tappoo Group, the school management committee, and the Ministry of Education, the playcenter is poised to be a pivotal aspect of community education. The ceremony concluded with the unveiling of a commemorative plaque, celebrating the collaborative efforts that contributed to this achievement and highlighting the community’s commitment to offering the best start for its children.

In a related achievement, Kavanagasau Sanatan Dharam Primary School marked a consecutive success with a 100 percent pass rate in last year’s Fiji Eighth Year Examination. Mr. Kumar noted that this remarkable achievement was also accomplished in 2022. He attributed the students’ success to the hard work of both teachers and parents. Lice Vuliasi, a diligent student from Kavanagasau settlement, achieved the highest marks. He emphasized that the school intends to maintain its efforts and appreciates the necessity of strong parental support. Mr. Kumar mentioned that they analyzed the weaknesses identified in 2023 and adjusted their strategies to aim for high-quality results once again this year.
