The construction of the Vualiku Hotel is set to alleviate the accommodation shortage in Labasa, according to Minister for Trade Manoa Kamikamica. The lack of available rooms was particularly noticeable during the Fiji Day celebrations at Subrail Park, which resulted in some civil servants having to share accommodations.
Kamikamica emphasized that this hotel development marks a significant step towards transforming Labasa into a thriving center for tourism, hospitality, and economic progress. The project represents a $10 million investment, initiated 13 years ago by Vcorp Limited’s director, Vinesh Dayal, and his wife, Rachel, in collaboration with the Matasawa tribe. With the plans now approved, the hotel will feature a two-story building that includes 40 rooms, a swimming pool, a restaurant, and various recreational activities.
Additionally, a spacious 500-square-meter conference facility will aim to draw more national conferences to the northern region. Kamikamica highlighted the project’s commitment to fostering iTaukei empowerment, in line with the Dayals’ core objectives, while also supporting the initiatives of the Labasa Chamber of Commerce and Industry to promote local development.
The minister noted that the development redefines the dynamics of partnerships between landowners and businesses, promising both direct and indirect benefits to the community. The completion of the Vualiku Hotel is anticipated by the end of 2025.
This investment not only addresses immediate accommodation needs but also opens doors for future growth and development in Labasa, ensuring the region becomes a key player in Fiji’s tourism landscape. The completion of this hotel could greatly contribute to the local economy while fostering a sense of community collaboration.
In summary, the Vualiku Hotel project is poised to enhance Labasa’s tourism infrastructure, support local economic growth, and promote community empowerment through strategic partnerships.
