The Vualiku Hotel is set to alleviate the room shortage in Labasa, as stated by Minister for Trade, Manoa Kamikamica. This shortage became apparent during the recent Fiji Day celebrations at Subrail Park, where some civil servants were compelled to share accommodations.
Mr. Kamikamica highlighted that the hotel project symbolizes a significant step towards enhancing Labasa’s status as a center for tourism, hospitality, and economic development. The initiative comes from a $10 million investment made 13 years ago by Vcorp Limited directors, Vinesh and Rachel Dayal, in partnership with the Matasawa tribe, and is now ready to move forward with approved plans.
The hotel will consist of a two-story building featuring 40 guest rooms, a swimming pool, a restaurant, and various recreational activities. Additionally, it will house a 500 square-meter conference facility, aiming to draw more national conferences to the northern region.
This venture promotes iTaukei empowerment, in alignment with the Dayals’ core objectives and the Labasa Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s efforts to foster development within the area. Mr. Kamikamica noted that the project redefines the partnership between landowners and businesses, providing both direct and indirect benefits to the community.
The completion of the Vualiku Hotel is anticipated by the end of 2025, offering a promising outlook for the economic growth and development of Labasa.
In summary, the construction of the Vualiku Hotel is not just a response to immediate accommodation needs but also a long-term investment in Labasa’s tourism and economic landscape, fostering community empowerment and growth. This project brings with it a hopeful future for the region, enhancing its attractiveness as a tourist destination and a hub for various events.
