New Horizons: Tower Vunilagi Scholarship Set to Transform Future Leaders

A panel of experts is currently evaluating applications for the newly introduced Tower Vunilagi Scholarship, with notifications for successful candidates expected this month. Jajeena Bhan, co-chair of Tower Insurance Suva Hub, noted that the panel comprises executives from Tower Group in New Zealand and the leadership team in Fiji.

The scholarship, named “vunilagi” which translates to “new horizons,” aims to support students identified as potential future leaders within Tower. Bhan mentioned that the initiative is part of the company’s commitment to fostering a more equitable, resilient, and sustainable future for all Fijians.

Launched in June to mark Tower’s 150-year presence in Fiji, the scholarship will provide financial assistance covering a full year of tuition for three final-year students at the University of the South Pacific (USP). Additionally, recipients will have the opportunity to undertake internships at Tower Insurance.

Bhan emphasized the vast potential within the insurance sector, describing it as an exciting field that offers numerous career opportunities in Fiji. Alongside tuition coverage, successful applicants will engage in paid internships, creating pathways to permanent employment with Tower upon graduation.

The company has a history of employing USP graduates, making this scholarship a significant step in strengthening their partnership. Bhan also highlighted a recent open day held at USP, which saw enthusiastic participation from students eager to learn about careers at Tower. The company will further engage with students at the USP Career Fair Days scheduled for October.
