A newly inaugurated health center in Dogo will serve over 8,000 residents from the Tailevu districts of Dawasamu, Namena, and Sawakasa, offering enhanced access to medical services. The center will also supervise health services at nursing stations located within Ratu Kadavulevu School, Dawasamu, and Queen Victoria School.
During the center’s commissioning, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka emphasized that improving healthcare access stands as a top priority for the Coalition Government. He expressed that the inauguration represents a significant achievement for the government and the communities of Tailevu North, particularly Sawakasa, Dawasamu, and Namena. He extended gratitude to the Minister of Health, the Permanent Secretary, and the New Zealand Government for their ongoing support of Fiji’s healthcare initiatives.
The health center has been refurbished following a fire incident in 2017, with financial backing from the New Zealand government amounting to $472,895. Additionally, Prime Minister Rabuka highlighted the urgent issue of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) during his address. He encouraged community members to utilize available health services for health screenings—such as blood sugar and blood pressure tests—to understand their health status better and heed medical advice.
Prime Minister Rabuka reiterated the notion that health is a vital asset for individuals, families, communities, and the nation. He noted that a healthy populace is essential for a resilient Fiji. New Zealand’s High Commissioner to Fiji, Ms. Charlotte Darlow, reinforced her country’s commitment to supporting Fiji’s health sector, climate resilience, adaptation, and economic empowerment efforts.
This development indicates a positive shift toward improved healthcare infrastructure in Fiji, promising better health outcomes for the population and fostering overall community wellness. The collaboration between Fiji and New Zealand signifies a strong partnership that supports sustainable improvements in public health and well-being.
In summary, the opening of the Dogo Health Centre marks an important step in providing quality healthcare for thousands and underscores the importance of community health in building a stronger and healthier Fiji.
